According to trade statistics reported by Korea Customs Service, South Korea's iron ore imports in May 2011 turned out to be 4.664 million tonnes.
The resulted in January to May cumulative imports at approximately 26 million tonne up 15.9% from the same term previous year at 22.44 million tonne.
South Korea is importing more iron ore, Hyundai Steel having two blast furnaces. Its first blast furnace was fired up in January 2010 and the second in November 2010.
