Reuters quoted data from industry consultancy Mysteel said imported iron ore inventories at major Chinese ports hit a record 94.04 million tonnes in the week ending July 15.
Stocks rose 0.4% from 93.65 million tonnes last Friday.
Chinese steel mills have started to rebuild their own stockpiles this week in anticipation of strong steel output and prices, but slow buying over the past few months has pushed port inventories to record levels.
Following is a table showing iron ore port stock movements in the last seven days.
Country of origin | Stockpiles 94.04 | Change |
Total | 94.04 | 0.4 |
Australia | 35.73 | 0.6 |
Brazil | 22.74 | 1 |
India | 15.45 | -0.1 |
