Indian Ministry of Coal warned six companies forming the joint venture Rampia Coal Mine and Energy Pvt. Ltd, namely ArcelorMittal, Reliance Energy, Lanco Group, GMR Energy, Navbharat Power and Vedanta subsidiary Sterlite Energy to speed up the works regarding the development of the coal block allocated to them.
The letter by the Ministry stated that in the review meetings, it has been observed that the progress on the development project was very slow. It is later noted that no serious efforts have been made by the company.
After the Review Committee did not find the reasons for delay convincing, the allocatees have been warned about a possible cancellation of the allocation unless they make progress on the coal block.
The joint venture Rampia Coal Mine and Energy Pvt. Ltd has been allocated with two coal blocks, namely Rampia and Dip of Rampia are located in the IB valley area of Sundargarh district, Orissa, by Ministry of Coal in 2008.
