Indonesian Coal miners were required to supply 82 million tons of coal to Domestic market in this year. This is a 2.53 percent higher than last year's domestic Obligation. Miners were asked to supply 79.97 million tons of coal last year.
Thamrin Sihite, Director General of Mineral and Coal at Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as quoted by Kontan daily, said the increase has counted the need of the local industries.
Higher demand from power plants that have been independently operated by private companies in partnership the state-controlled power producer PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).
The coal production from miners in 2012 is estimated to increase 23 percent to 332 million tons. About 75.91 percent of the production may be exported, and the remaining may supply the local market need, the report further said.
