First 10 million tonnes coal mine launched in China

China Huadian Corporation plans to launch its Buliangou coal mine on June 30 in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. This is the first 10 million tonne very large coal mine developed independently by a Chinese power company.

With a designed annual production capacity of 10 million tonnes, the mine was started in November 2007 and put into trial production in December, 2009 costing only 25 months as the construction period. Its main and auxiliary shafts have won the highest honor for project quality in the coal industry.

In the year of pilot production, the mine reached monthly and yearly raw coal output of 1.02 million tonnes and 5.3 million tonnes, the highest level in the industry.

Mengtai Buliangou Coal Industry is the first large scale comprehensive energy project carried out by Huadian Corporation to combine electricity generation with coal production also a key program on its way to a 50 million tonne mining group.

Mr Yun Gongmin General Manger of Huadian said the company highly values coal sector development and takes it as the critical field and major content for the structural adjustment of the corporation. It will try to make Buliangou a model program in the corporate system, as well as an outstanding modern coal enterprise in China and the world at large.
