It is reported that Bahia by 2014 should be the third largest producer of iron ore from Brazil. The expectation is that the state produces 19.5 million tons of iron ore per year with the implementation of the Project Stone Iron Mining of Bahia.
The project which is already in the process of environmental licensing will have an investment of about USD 2 billion and is being implemented in Caetite in South Western Bahia.
The production will be transported by Railway East-West Integration, which is also being built by the Federal Government. The product will flow through a new port at lheus.
