TATA Power Maithon project achieves full load on coal

TATA Power India's largest integrated private power utility announced the successful achievement of full load generation of the 525 MW Unit 1 on June 30th at 2345 hours at the Maithon Power plant in Dhanbad, Jharkhand.

The full load generation was achieved after the successful synchronization of the unit under the requisite standard requirements. Unit 1 was scheduled to achieve commercial operation by H1 of FY12.

Maithon Power Limited the 74:26 Joint Venture between TATA Power and Damodar Valley Corporation announced is implementing a 2 x 525 MW coal fired power project power in Jharkhand. MPL is the first successful public private partnership in green field generation project in the country.

MPL has firmed up fuel supplies from Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries. Fuel supply agreement has been signed with Bharat Coking Coal Limited for supply of coal to the project.

The project has received all the statutory clearances including environment clearance from Ministry of Environment and Forests. The Power Purchase Agreements has been signed and power evacuation arrangement has been put in place by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. In addition to supplying power to DVC, power from the Maithon Project is to be exported to power deficit northern states.

Mr Anil Sardana MD of TATA Power said that “The achievement of full load capacity at Unit 1 of Maithon on coal is a significant milestone. I would to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Jharkhand, DVC, Government of India in helping us at various stages. The team of engineers, associates and the locals involved have put in their relentless efforts in bettering the project deadlines.”
