Czech Coal will continue to help Litvinov residents

Monday, 04 Jul 2011

The Czech Coal Group wants to continue to support Litvínov. Despite the termination of the co-operation that ran under an agreement with the local town hall for 11 years, the Group is ready to support local organizations, societies and special interest associations, for which it opens the Coexistence Program on July 1 2011. The purpose of this program is to provide help to projects and activities in education culture and sport.

Mr Libena Novotná head of regional policy at the Czech Coal Group said “The fact that we have terminated the co operation with the Litvínov town hall does not mean that we do not want to continue to help those in Litvínov who under more difficult financial conditions, and applying great personal commitment, strive to provide for the operation of sport organizations, take care of the cultural life in the town and the whole region and try to improve the conditions for education without having big chances of receiving various subsidies or support from the town hall. It is still true that we are aware of our responsibility for the life of the people living in the towns and villages in the coal mining region. For the time being, brown coal has the opportunity to help the region in this way too. As could clearly be seen in the past few weeks and there are great interest in our assistance.”

The applications will be received continuously and evaluated at two-month intervals. Applicants can send them in writing to the address of the company. The amount of support will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to organizations that focus on activities for children and young people and apply for a contribution for their activity. In the case of costly projects, one of the criteria for deciding on the amount of the contribution will also be potential co-financing from other sources. The Coexistence Program will automatically include the applications received by the Czech Coal Group from Litvínov organizations since the termination of the partnership co operation with the town hall, ie April 2011 including those registered for the Clever Heads for the North grant scheme.

The Czech Coal Group includes Czech Coal as a trader in energy commodities mainly brown coal, electrical energy and greenhouse gas emissions allowances which also provides shared services within the Group and Litvínovska uhelna as which manages the largest coal deposit in the Czech Republic, Vršanska uhelna as whose coal reserves within the currently existing mining limits will last until around 2055 and a number of other service companies.
