NMDC to setup 2nd steel plant in Chhattisgarh

State run National Mineral Development Corporation on Saturday said that it plans to setup its second steel plant in Chhattisgarh with a capacity of two million tonnes per annum.
The country’s largest iron ore miner in the public sector plans to setup the integrated steel plant in a joint venture at an investment of around INR 10,000 crore.

Mr Rana Som CMD of NMDC told reporters that “We will setup our second steel plant in Chhattisgarh with a capacity of two million tonnes per annum. We will announce the JV partner by end of this fiscal.” However, Mr Som did not reveal the exact location and time frame for the construction of the steel plant.

NMDC plans to start production in its first plant a 3 million tonnes per annum integrated steel plant in Chhattisgarh Bastar district by early 2014 at an investment of INR 15,525 crore.
Mr Som said that “We have already started construction work at the Bastar plant and hope to complete construction by December 2013. We will start production by early 2014 adding that the land acquisition process concluded in a record 10 months. (Sourced from PTI
