The National Energy Administration (NEA) of China is now making research on formulating administrative measures on special and rare coal varieties, including protective measures on development of coking coal, Shanghai Security News reported.
According to the report, the NEA is conducting a nationwide survey on coking coal resources. It will combine the survey with the country's coal industry development plan during the 2011-15 period to fix layout for coking coal development in the following five years.
In response to recent media reports about disorder of China's coking coal development, Fang Junshi, director of NEA's Coal Department, said that this is not the mainstream, adding that China should improve management system for coal industry, especially management on special and rare coal varieties.
Fang noted that during the 2011-15 period, China will focus on planning and distribution optimization of coking coal resources, and in the meantime make effort to check chaotic and excessive development.
Besides, the country will push forward merger and acquisition of coking coal enterprises to promote the industry's consolidation in that period, Fang stated. It will also gradually phase out lagged mining techniques to raise recovery ratio.
China's coking coal output stood at about 1 billion tonnes (tonnes) in 2010. North China's Shanxi Province produced 340 million tonnes, or 34 percent of national total output.
