Lisle, Illinois-based metallurgical coal mining company SunCoke Energy told local news agencies Monday that its new coke plant in Middletown, Ohio is about 96 percent completed. Suncoke invested about $390 million in the plant that may be opening as soon as October 1 of this year.
Once fully operating, the plant will produce about 550,000 tons of metallurgical coke. SunCoke already has a contract with AK Steel to supply the raw steelmaking ingredient to AK's Middletown works mill.
