BNamericas reported that Chilean miner Desierto de Hierro's environmental impact assessment for a USD 10 million project to produce iron ore concentrates from pre stripped material at its Bella Ester mine in northern region III has been approved.
A source from the environment ministry's evaluation service told BNamericas that the project includes crushing facilities and a dry magnetic concentrator with throughput capacity of 58,000 tonne per month.
Basic engineering works started in March last year and were completed in November.
The project, which was originally scheduled to start construction in April this year, will have an initial lifespan of two years, after which the company will evaluate its potential extension.
Concentrated iron ore will be stockpiled onsite and sold to local clients. By using a dry magnetic concentration process, the operation will not require the use of water and will not generate tailings, according to the company.
