Newspaper El Mercurio on its online edition citing environment minister, Ms Maria Ignacia Benitez reported that Chile’s government approved the first phase of coal mining project in Isla Riesco.
The project in the Magellan region will be developed by Empresas Copec SA, Chile’s largest pulp exporter and Grupo Ultramar a maritime services provider, aims to invest USD 530 million.
El Mercurio reported that Isla Riesco’s coal project will supply its production to power plants in the center and north region of the country.
