Jilin closes over 100 small coal mines

Jilin province, based in northeastern China, has closed 104 small coal mines in the past three years, eliminating around 5.33 million tonnes of backward production capacities, sources learnt form local government.
Nevertheless, the output of coal in Jilin Province in 2010 surged to 42.8 million tonnes up by 61% as compared to that of the province in 2005.

In addition, despite the increase in the coal output of the province, coal mine accidents in Jilin Province in 2010 were down 82% compared to the number of accidents in 2005. (sourced:en.sxcoal.com)
