According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first nine months of 2011 Italy's steel imports from non-European Union (EU) countries reached 7.39 million metric tons, increasing by 21.7 percent year on year, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations totaled 3.54 million metric tons, down 4.4 percent year on year.
In January-September this year, Italy's semi-finished steel product imports from non-EU countries reached 2.362 million metric tons, down 1.7 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel product exports to countries outside the EU amounted to 188,000 metric tons, decreasing by 42 percent year on year.
In the given period, Italy's imports of long steel products from non-EU countries increased by 22.6 percent to 521,000 metric tons, while its long steel product exports to non-EU destinations totaled 990,000 metric tons, up 2.1 percent, both year on year.
