Taiwan saw its coal imports total 5.32 million tonnes in Dec 2010, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 1.1% or a month-on-month decrease of 7.6%, according to a report today released by Taiwan's Bureau of Energy.
Last Dec, the island imported 4.44 million tonnes of thermal coal and 292,150 tonnes of coking coal, representing a year-on-year growth of 7.5% and plunge of 52%, respectively.
In Dec 2010, the average import price of thermal coal surged 24% year on year or swelled 2.8% month on month to US$107.12 per tonen, while coking coal's price was US$189.91 per ton on average, up 37% year on year but down 6.4% month on month.
Taiwan imported a total of 63.77 million tonnes of coal last year, 8.7% more than it realized in 2009.
