Kedah Government identifies iron ore as new income source

Bernama quoted as a source of additional income for the state said the Kedah government has identified iron ore found in a number of districts.

Mr Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said the find had attracted a lot of local investors who are keen to be involved in the industry. He said that "We found a lot of areas between Sungai Petani and Kubang Pasu with iron ore to the point of being visible on the surface of the earth.

He added that "The demand for iron ore at present is high and we have had a lot of investors wanting to be involved in the industry. He also said the state government is now in the discussion stage and considering applications from those investors keen on mining the iron ore.”

Meanwhile, Mr Azizan said the state government plans to make Pulau Bunting in Yan a stopover or port for cargo ships. He said the state government also plans to build a railway line from Kobah, Pendang to Pulau Bunting to eventually enable trains from Kunming, China to stopover at the island.

He said China exports a lot of products and to countries in Africa and Australia. Pulau Bunting can be a transit point for ships carrying cargo from China. (sourced from Bernama)
