China coal transport by railway grows 11pct in May

According to the National Development and Reform Commission on June 16, China coal transport volume by railway reached 186.13 million tonnes in May up by 18.47 million or 11%YoY. Among the total amount, thermal coal accounted for 129.22 million tonnes up 14.22 million or 12.4%YoY.

Cumulatively putting the five months together, the figures are as follows:

1. Coal
922.63 million tonnes up 109.19 million or 13.4%

2. Thermal coal
656.04 million tonnes up 94.13 million or 16.8%.

In terms of the main coal passages in the five months, Datong-Qinhuangdao route completed 178.82 million tonnes, up 14.89 million or 9.1%, Houma-Yueshan route transported 74.26 million tonnes up 1.05 million or 1.4%. (sourced from MySteel.net)
