It is reported that two years ago, ArcelorMittal Hochfeld in Duisburg placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of a complete high capacity wire rod mill for quality steel.
In view of economic development at that time, however, the project was suspended. Now the order has been reinstated and the mill is scheduled to commence production in spring 2012.
In addition, the wire rod blocks will be equipped with a new individual drive technology developed by SMS Meer. The high performance wire rod mill is designed for an annual capacity of 690,000 tonnes.
The SMS Meer scope of supply comprises a walking beam furnace, the mechanical and electrical equipment of the mill train, all the supply system, the coil handling equipment, the entire rolling and cooling technology as well as erection and installation.
