China’s top coal production base of Inner Mongolia plans to extend the capacity of coal railways transporting the fuel out of the region during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, Shanghai Securities News reported, citing a draft plan for the coal industry complied by the National Energy Administration.
By 2015, Jitong railway, which starts from Ulanchab to Tongliao of Inner Mongolia, would have the capacity to transport 35 million tonnes, up from 15 million tonnes in 2010, according to the plan.
The railway to be constructed from Inner Mongolia to Hebei during this period would contribute 40 million tonnes of capacity, the report said.
Meanwhile, the capacity of Shenhua-owned Shuohuang railway, which starts from Shuozhou in Shanxi province to Huanghua port, would also help boosting coal transports from Inner Mongolia, as its capacity is expected to reach 250 million tonnes by 2015 from 160 million tonnes in 2010.
