Indian Express reported that the central government has decided to increase Gujarat’s quota of coal from Western Coalfields Ltd for four thermal power stations of the state.
BJP MP of Ahmedabad (East) Mr Harin Pathak said that in response to his representation made in Parliament on August 23, Minister of State for Coal Mr Pratik Prakashbapu Patil replied in a letter (October 23, 2011) that as per his demand, the ministry had decided to increase Gujarat’s quota for Gandhinagar, Ukai, Vanakbori and SIkka.
All four plants are owned by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. He said the demand for higher quota from Western Coalfields are raised in view of its proximity to the state.
The request was examined by the Task Force constituted by the Ministry of Coal for rationalisation of sources for the existing consumers of coal. The Task Force recommended rationalization of sources of coal in respect of 12 thermal power plants, which include the four of GSECL, the minister told Pathak in his letter.
