China Knowledge citing Mr Chen Xuyuan President of Shanghai International Port Group Co, China largest port operator as saying that the company expected its container throughput to increase to between 36 million and 37 million twenty foot equivalent units by 2015
In 2010, the company overtook the Singapore port to become the world largest port in terms of container throughput, which stood at 29.09 million TEUs in 2010.
The company total throughput was 650 million tonnes last year continuing to be the largest in the world.
Shanghai International Port said earlier this month that it had secured approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission to launch a private placement in which it plans to place 1.76 billion shares at CNY 4.49 apiece to Shanghai Tongsheng Investment Co to buy latter's port assets.
