Sunday, 08 May 2011

FE reported that the Orissa government has imposed a ban on new sponge iron plants while announcing a green policy for the steel and power industries.

Mr T Ramachandru the state principal secretary for industries said that Orissa would not allow new sponge iron plants and would also not permit expansion of existing plants in the state.

He said “Curbs would be imposed on steel plants using sponge iron routes. While 0.3 million tonne capacity plants would be allowed to use 350 tonne of iron ore per day, plants with 0.3 million tonne to 0.6 million tonne capacity would be permitted to use 550 tonne of ore per day.”
