Handan Iron and Steel Group (Hansteel), a subsidiary of giant Chinese steelmaker Hebei Iron and Steel Group, has announced that in the current month it has received an order to export 14,000 mt of cold rolled sheet to India.
As of August 17, Hansteel had produced 2,800 mt of cold rolled sheet for the order in question.

Hebei Steel Group to develop Changyu iron ore deposit

It is reported that Major Chinese steelmaker Hebei Iron and Steel Group as well as Chinese companies Hebei Yinghua Mineral and Tangshan Donghai Steel have established Changyu Iron Ore Company to develop the Changyu iron ore deposit in Xiangtang, Luanxian County, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, China.
The deposit in question consists of magnetite iron ore of average iron content of 29.24% with proven reserves of 120 million tonnes.

Hebei Steel Group develops over 120 new steel products in 2010

It is reported that Chinese steelmaking giant Hebei Iron and Steel Group in 2010 developed more than 120 new steel products with its sales volume of such new products during the year reaching 2.9 million tonnes or 8.5% of its total sales volume.
Also in 2010, Hebei Steel produced 20.5 million tonnes of special steel, accounting for 60% of its total output volume, including steel products for offshore platforms and nuclear projects which have been produced for the first time in China. In 2010, Hebei Steel started production at its 2.15 million tonnes capacity cold rolled project which is the first project for the production of high strength cold rolled automotive plate and wide galvanized automotive plate in China Hebei Province.
In 2010, Hebei Steel invested CNY 1.52 billion in a total of 25 programs aimed at saving energy and reducing emissions. In China 11th five year period (2006-10), Hebei Steel invested CNY 5 billion in programs aimed at saving energy and cutting emissions, completing 142 such programs.

HBIS operation revenue hits CNY 200 billion

It is reported that Hebei Iron & Steel Group was confronted with expenses increase and profit decrease top CNY 10.5 billion due to the cost rise and steel industry profit level decline. However, the HBIS achieved operation revenue of CNY 220 billion with increase of 24.29%YoY through speeding structure adjustment and seizing high end market.
HBIS became the first large enterprise in Hebei history to have achieved operation revenue of over CNY 200 billion. Mr Wang Yifang President of HBIS said “It was the science & technology innovation that laid the foundation for the Group’s profit rise against the tendency.”
In 2010, HBIS broke many records in science & technology innovation area: It explored over 120 new products annually, with sales of new products reaching 2.9 million tonnes and new products contribution rate of 8.5%; It manufactured varietal steel of 20.5 million tonnes accounting for 60%, of which high-strength ocean platform steel, nuclear power steel and many other varieties successfully substituted import and fulfilled domestic market.
HBIS Group put forth effort on promotion of equipment structure adjustment and invested CNY 35.6 billion in the adjustment projects since it was established. Currently, the main equipment has realized large-scaling and modernization which laid firm foundation for product structure adjustment. Handan Steel newly added district 2.15 million tonnes CR project was built and put into production in 2010 which filled Hebei high strength automobile sheet market and domestic widest galvanized automobile sheet market. HBIS to hike EXW price for Feb by CNY 100 to 150 per tonne

It is reported that Hebei Iron & Steel Group raise its February ex-works prices of most construction steel products and plate products by CNY 100 per tonne to CNY 150 tonne.
All price changes listed below are EXCLUSIVE of 17% VAT except stated otherwise, and will come into force as of the date of issuance.

China to tackle steel overcapacity in new plan - Report

Economic Information Daily citing a senior industry official as saying that China will renew its efforts to rein in overcapacity in its sprawling steel sector in the next five years.
The paper, run by state news agency Xinhua quoted an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as saying that China would focus on satisfying domestic steel demand over the 2011-2015 period.
While China draft five year plan for the sector was still under discussion, it already includes more plans to close down inefficient small scale producers and consolidate output in a number of very large scale steel enterprises.
China aims to put more than 60% of national steel capacity in the hands of its top 10 firms by the end of 2015 and big state owned firms like Baosteel and the Hebei Iron and Steel Group would be encouraged to increase annual capacity to 50 million tonnes to 60 million tonnes over the period.
China has long sought to strengthen the position of the big state-owned majors at the expense of thousands of small private mills, but flourishing demand has kept many of the minnows in business. While progress was made last year, the shift came largely as a result of one-off campaigns to meet energy efficiency targets which led to the temporary closure of hundreds of small mills.
