Chhattisgarh, with nearly 20% iron ore and coal reserves of the country has recorded a jump of over INR 800 crore in revenue from minerals in fiscal 2010 to 2011 compared to fiscal 2009 to2010.
"The revenues earned through royalties on various minerals have shot up to INR 2,461 crore in 2010 to 2011 compared to INR 1,655 crore received in fiscal year 2009 to 2010.
A senior official of the mining department said that the total rise in revenue from minerals in fiscal 2010 to 2011 is over INR 800 crore which the government had not expected. The bulk of revenues came from coal and iron ore sectors. (sourced Mangalorean)
