Mr Raghunath Mohanty Minister of Orissa Steel and Mines said that so far 29 companies out of the 50 that have signed MoUs to set up steel projects have gone into partial production with an investment of INR 52,000 crore. The companies have also provided employment to 53,000 youth in their plants.
On conclusion of a two day review of the status and progress of the steel companies that have signed MoUs with the Government to set up projects, the minister told reporters that Tecton Ispat Private Ltd and Pradhan Steel and Power Ltd are found to be nonstarters as far as the milestones are concerned.
He regretted that “Despite the availability of iron ore mines both the companies did not care to do anything after three years of signing of the MoUs with the government.”
