Severstal maintains steel shipments at relatively high levels in August

It is reported that in August this year, Russian steelmaker Severstal plans to ship around 66,000 tonnes to 68,000 tonnes of commercial galvanized steel against 79,000 tonnes in July including 60,000 tonnes to 62,000 tonnes to the domestic market.

In the given month, Severstal will ship around 18,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes of rolled steel with polymer coating against 23,000 tonnes in July, including 18,000 tonnes to 19,000 tonnes to the domestic market.

In January to July period of the current year, Severstal produced around 410,000 tonnes of commercial galvanized steel up by 43%YoY and 131,000 tonnes of rolled steel with polymer coating up by 11% compared to January to July 2010.

Ningbo Steel to reach capacity of 6 million tonnes

It is reported that Ningbo Steel, a subsidiary of Baosteel is planning to make new breakthrough in energy saving and environmental protection project. It has selected 3 energy saving and environmental protection plans with a total investment of CNY 2.28 billion. So far, it has made early following preparations for the project.

1. Ningbo Steel will build a noval environmentally friendly sintering machine with 430 square meters and a set of desulphurization of sintering gas equipment with an investment of CNY 630 million.

2. It will invest CNY 600 million to build a set of slag secondary operation facility with annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes, slag levigating production line with annual capacity of 2×300,000 tonnes etc in order to enhance the utilization level of industrial solid waste.

3. NingboSteel will build new strip continuous casting tandem rolling production line, pickling plates production line, galvanized production line with a total investment of CNY 1.05 billion with annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes for pickling products and hot dip galvanized products of 300,000 tonnes, which will fill in the gap for producing strip continuous casting tandem rolling steel in China.

As per report desulphurization of sintering gas equipment project and solid waste handling project will start construction in the first half of 2011; strip continuous casting tandem rolling project and hot dip galvanized project will start construction in Aug, 2011.

Uttam Galva Steels Q3 net down by 41pct

Uttam Galva Steels a producer of galvanized plain and cold rolled steel, has posted a decline of 41.39% in net profit to INR 101.10 million for the quarter ended December 31st 2010 as compared to INR 172.50 million for the quarter ended December 31st 2009. The company’s net sales has decreased marginally by 4.76% from INR 10, 916.80 million for the quarter ended December 31st 2009 to INR 10,396.30 million for the quarter ended December 31st 2010, a rise of 9.94%.(sourced:IRIS)

ArcelorMittal mulls USD 200 million investment in new line

ArcelorMittal, Brazil, investment, steel ArcelorMittal may invest USD 200 million in a new Brazilian line with capacity to produce 500,000 tonnes of galvanized steel a year
Bloomberg reported that ArcelorMittal may invest USD 200 million to produce steel for Brazil's auto industry.
Mr Benjamin Baptista Filho, CEO of South American flat carbon steels unit, said that the new line would have the capacity to produce 500,000 tonnes of galvanized steel a year at ArcelorMittal's plant in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.
ArcelorMittal will likely make a decision by the end of March 2011 and the line would start operating in the first half of 2014.
